This March, in a collaboration with veteran photojournalist Joe Patronite I shot and edited a short documentary video in Cleveland about HIV and AIDS in the African American community there. The story focuses on three women who have lived with the epidemic for most of its 30–year history.

This video had a wonderful DP with the eye of a photographer. The setups remind me a lot of Will’s videos, which are photo compositions one after another.

I know my fair share about Real Dolls, having once written an article about sex dolls. I put it on my website, thinking it would make a fine portfolio piece. That I could send a link to editors, who might like it and lavish me with assignments.
I am not sure editors are the ones seeing it.
Now 6 of the top ten search terms that bring people to my site are related to sex dolls. It appears these searchers are doing some comparative researching before making the plunge into a 6k+ investment. I hope they find my article informative in their decision making. I also hope some of them might be editors who can appreciate some good writing when they see it.

While I agree in theory with Will’s post on saving money when expensive upgrades will go unused or underutilized, I actually have had a very different experience after buying the 5D Mark II, the very same camera Will forsook. While I purchased the Mark II having very little video experience, I have been shooting more and more video and am starting to figure out the mindset needed for a continuous stream of meaningful imagery (opposed to the decisive moment school of thought). This is the first video completely shot by me edited by my dear friend (and director of the lisztomania video I wrote about) Ian Parker.
