After a month’s hiatus, Sunday Morning Sidewalk is back! This week I took a friend’s Holga for a spin one last time before returning it.

Will had a lot of fun with light this month, shadows and subject popping from their light sources. He also got outdoor photos that don’t involve snow which I am pretty jealous about. As always, he was a ramblin’ man, heading home, meeting Ozzy and hanging out with furries. When are you going on your road trip Will?

Jackie didn’t get around much in February, probably because of what you people outside of Southern California call weather. I’m sure she has her reasons, but feel free to shame her into taking more photos this month.

Here is my producing debut. I shot the video on my 5d mark II and then edited it on Final Cut Pro. I only had a 4 gig card, severely limiting what I could shoot, so please excuse the lack of b-roll. Also, the sound was only recorded through my camera, a big no-no to anyone trying to shoot anything worthwhile on HDDSLRS but I did what I could with what I had.

I tried to see past the signs and star-spangled denim, and found a group of humble folks who were just plain mad. Mad, and tired of a government they feel ignores them to such a degree that some of those same people decide to dress as revolutionaries…

Two things to keep in mind while shooting golf. First, a 400mm lens is a must. And, second, to make ‘the’ photo of the day you have to use a wide angle lens.

When I think of Jackie’s work I think of the big city, New York, and I imagine her running around with a cabal of 20-somethings from Brooklyn, writing blogs and making videos. The strongest images from January that she sent me to review were personal ones (except for the bearded fellow from Serena’s story Steeping the People), taken while on a road trip in California.

Will and I decided at the end of the month to send one another a selection of photos, with the photographer on the receiving end pulling 5 or so of their favorite images. Shooting on opposites coast with different styles and agenda, I’m hoping we can perhaps document a national zeitgeist between the two of us. I also hope this inspires me to get out with my camera (even if I can’t feel my fingers) since I just realized that the latest round for the Emerging Photographer Grant is upon …

A cold snap in Florida has every county declared a disaster area and its my job to show Floridians what their farmers are going through. I attempt to do this beautifully, making the images as impactful as possible.

A man’s voice sounded from inside the short white school bus. “Free tea!” the voice declared to the outside world passing by. Guisepi sat perched on a cooler, tending a kettle of tea. He looked so comfortable in his makeshift kitchen of storage tubs and wooden shelves that you could actually believe he had spent the last four years trekking up and down the West Coast serving free tea.
