Street Photo: La Jolla

When I don’t have anything else to work on, I try to put a few miles on my sneakers with a couple cameras around my neck and my big dorky camera fanny pack bouncing down my hips.

I usually avoid hitting the same place two days in a row, for variety’s sake. The decision often comes to a cost-benefit analysis of scenery versus people potential.

A place like La Jolla is certainly scenic, but on the occasion that I took this photo it wasn’t particularly populated. More so because it was morning – hours before people swarm to the nearby restaurants and boutiques. I wasn’t particularly enthused about wandering around with no people about, but at least the weather was nice for December.

It’s definitely harder to avoid people reacting to the camera when there aren’t any other people around. This woman was doing her exercises while the man I assume was her husband waited. I got just a couple of shots off before she noticed the novelty of the situation and started laughing. Maybe getting a reaction is what some photographers look for, but most of the time I don’t seek it out. I gave this woman a big goofy Forrest Gump wave and kept walking.
